Street Improvement Permitting (SIP) Process Redesign
SDOT is redesigning the Street Improvement Permitting process with the goals of reducing the cost of Street Improvement Permits, reducing permit issuance timeframes, increasing the predictability of the process, and improving customer satisfaction. In other words… better, faster, cheaper Street Improvement Permits!
Accomplishments to date:
- Street Improvement Permit status and cost information is now available online.
- The DPD Preliminary Assessment Report now includes SDOT right-of-way improvement design and permit requirements for all new construction projects at no charge.
- The Street Improvement Permit Application has been redesigned to include requests for SIP Design Guidance and SIP acceptance for Formal Circulation.
- The number of SIP Formal Circulation review stops has been reduced.
- SDOT is participating in certain DPD Pre-Submittal Conferences.

Right-of-Way Improvements Manual
The Seattle Right-of-Way
Improvements Manual is intended to help property owners, developers, architects
and engineers plan for and design street and alley improvements associated
with development projects.
SIP Client Assistance Memos (CAMs)
Client
Assistance Memos provide user-friendly guidance on matters pertaining
to Street Improvement Permits.
SIP Information Packets
There are three SIP information packets; each focuses on a different part
of the development and permit process. Brief explanations of each packet are
below.
Applicant/Developer Packet : The
Applicant/Developer Packet is designed to help you understand the requirements
that each applicant/developer must meet in the City of Seattle Department of
Transportation Street Improvement permitting process.
