Process Overview
If you're unsure whether you need a permit, projects that usually require a permit from DPD involve new or changed uses of property, construction or alteration of a building - even if you can't see the alterations from the outside. The permitting process is different for each type of permit, but the following steps usually apply:

Getting Started
The permitting process is different for each type of permit, but the following steps in the General Permitting Process usually apply to each permit.

Green Q
DPD applicants who are applying for new residential building permits under Seattle’s 2006 Residential Code (SRC) will have the option of entering DPD’s Green Q for expedited permit processing.

Applicant Services Center (ASC)
Come in to the ASC and meet with a DPD staff member to make sure you have everything you need for a successful application.

Permit Forms
Applications submitted to DPD require supporting documentation. To help streamline your application process, we provide online versions of DPD forms.

Mapping Tools and Online Services
DPD provides centralized access to Seattle maps, including zoning and parcel information, aerial photographics, city landmarks, environmental designations, special overlay districts.
