Committee to begin review of Seattle Children’s Hospital’s proposed expansion
First meeting scheduled for November 18

SEATTLE –The Seattle City Council’s Planning, Land Use and Neighborhoods Committee (PLUNC) has scheduled November 18 as its initial meeting on Children’s Hospital’s proposed Major Institution Master Plan (MIMP).

"We're committed to an expeditious, fair process that gives this complex proposal the careful consideration it deserves," said Councilmember Sally J. Clark, chair of the PLUNC. "Councilmembers take consideration of the proposal and the fairness rules seriously."

The committee will meet on November 18 at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers, City Hall, and during that meeting will be briefed on the Hearing Examiner’s decision. The briefing may include a summary of the proposal, an overview of the site, a review of the various program components and the process related to the development of the MIMP and the process for Council review.

No public testimony will be taken at the briefing regarding the merits of the proposed MIMP. Persons who have filed appeals will have an opportunity to provide oral argument regarding their appeals at future committee meetings.

As with all MIMPs, the Council will act as judges in this case, rather than legislators. They will base their final decision on applicable laws and the Hearing Examiner’s record, along with considering the 11 appeals that have been made in this case.

Council meetings are cablecast live on Seattle Channel 21 and Webcast live on the City Council’s website.
